PEAK Structure Solutions Builds Variety of Structures for 2023 Head of The Charles Regatta
Summary of Project
The purpose of the project was to provide all tenting, flooring, and staging requirements along the 3-mile racecourse of the Head of the Charles Regatta, an annual rowing competition along the Charles River in Boston and Cambridge, Massachusetts. The project included meeting the needs of race operations, athletes, spectators, onsite partner vendors, sponsors, and hospitality opportunities. The client’s needs ranged from typical 9’x10’ frame tents to a 12.5M x 60M X 4M Uniflex Structure complete with glass panels and glass door entrances that was used for hospitality suites.
Challenges
The project presented multiple challenges: a tight budget, an extended 3-mile site along the Charles River, a tight construction timeline, an always-open-to-the-public park, common inclement weather, a complicated permitting process, tight staging areas, and quick take-down requirements. Therefore, year-long coordination was essential for developing the site design and deploying the project successfully.
Solutions
PEAK Structure Solutions offered a wide array of tent products and solutions tailored to the event and client’s different requirements. They also provided a high level of expertise and service to ensure the project’s success. Unique features varied by site. One hospitality tent was designed to take advantage of a tight physical site with a steep grade change, incorporating custom-cut legs on one side and a custom flooring layout dividing the venue into two half floors. Another hospitality tent featured a glass panel and door wall that enhanced the entrance, while interior gables were added to cleanly separate the back-of-house catering and hospitality areas. At the signature awards pavilion, a custom black structure and wall pavilion enhanced the 32’ wide awards backdrop provided by the Regatta.
OUTCOME
The collaboration with PEAK Structure Solutions resulted in a comprehensive site solution that met the requirements of the Regatta, ensuring the enjoyment of all participants and attendees. Through careful design and execution, there were a limited number of unexpected situations along the 3-mile site.
