PEAK Structure Solutions Builds Custom Tent Structure for TV Sitcom “SMILF”
Summary of Project
PEAK Structure Solutions provided a temporary, customizable tent structure for the television production set of the sitcom “SMILF.” This specific project involved creating a tent for an episode centered around an equestrian event, aiming to evoke a derby-like atmosphere with blue and white striped box seating. The production team sought tenting solutions to match this specific design turning to PEAK Structure Solutions to create a customized tent.
Challenges
The primary challenge was that the required product with the desired design specifications did not exist and needed to be manufactured or created in some way. The spacing of the blue and white stripes, the need to be set as close to clear span as possible and the desired color palette made the custom route the only way to go. So, to achieve this, the PSS team moved forward with creating their own fabric solution.
In addition to product inventory challenges, production timelines and fluid schedules due to weather and shoot days added complexity to the project.
Solutions
The PSS team applied blue vinyl stripes to existing tent fabric to achieve the desired look, which avoided the time constraints and cost of manufacturing new tent tops. They installed 20’ and 25’ Navi Trac® tents on elevated flooring to create the tiered box seating creating the derby-like setting for the show.
Outcome
The tailored solutions provided by PEAK were successful. The color, size and design of the fabric worked perfectly with the set and exceeded the client’s expectations. They played a key role in the episode and perfectly matched the envisioned derby experience. The tents seamlessly integrated into the set, demonstrating PEAK’s ability to deliver high-quality, customized solutions under tight timelines.
